Publix Super Markets Selects Epson Printers for Store-Wide System Rollout
17,000-Units To Provide Ultimate Flexibility, Key Functionality

Long Beach, CA - September 17, 2004

Today Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, announced that Publix Super Markets, Inc. has selected its TM-H6000II multifunction printer as part of the company's storewide POS system rollout. The chain plans to install Epson printers in all stores. The rollout is expected to be complete by year-end 2006.

"Epson's TM-H6000II provides a great value proposition for supermarkets," said Bud Weist, Vice President of Epson sales and marketing, System Device group. "Publix gains state-of-the-art printing performance on their legacy POS system while migrating to a new, component-based system."

Epson's TM-H6000II delivers the ability to read MICR, print and endorse checks in a single pass, shortening check printing time up to 50% over "check flipping" options. This technology speeds up transaction times, creating faster-moving checkout lanes and increasing customer satisfaction. With Epson's Connect-It™ interface options, the TM-H6000II is compatible with proprietary systems as well as today's PC-based POS solutions, giving supermarket retailers a flexible configuration with peak printing productivity.

Publix is owned and operated by its 123,500 employees, with 2003 sales of $16.8 billion. Currently Publix has 826 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The company has been named one of Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For in America" for seven consecutive years. In addition, Publix's dedication to superior quality and customer service is recognized as tops in the grocery business, most recently by an American Customer Satisfaction Index survey.
