John Lang
President and Chief Executive Officer, Epson America |
As president and chief executive officer for Epson America Inc., John Lang oversees sales and marketing, distribution, product development and business strategy for the company, which is headquartered in Long Beach, Calif. He is responsible for driving the company's leadership in the digital imaging marketplace, as well as continued growth and innovation in the retail point-of-sale industry.
Mr. Lang joined Epson America in 1987 as vice president of finance and chief financial officer. In 1991, he was named to the board of directors, providing strategic input toward growth and profitability objectives. He became executive vice president of operations in 1993 and senior executive vice president and chief operating officer in 1995. During his seven years as COO, Mr. Lang was in charge of Epson America's branded marketing, sales, and customer service and support functions for North and South America. Mr. Lang became president and chief executive officer in 2002.
Under Mr. Lang's many years of leadership, Epson has built a strong sales and marketing program, focusing on outstanding customer service and operational efficiency. The company has grown market share and expanded into new markets, including the graphic arts and projector markets, by introducing a succession of breakthrough products for these markets. Mr. Lang has also championed Epson's major push into the photography market, and as a result of the direction he has set for the company, Epson is the brand that professional photographers, who have the most demanding standards for image quality, prefer 4 to 1 over any other brand in the United States. Additionally the company is now strategically expanding its base of advanced amateur photographers and migrating into the consumer photography space with products and programs.
Mr. Lang is active in various business and community organizations, currently serving on the board of directors for United Western Grocers and previously serving on the board of directors for the YMCA. He also volunteers in other capacities for various charities.
Before joining Epson, Mr. Lang was a management consultant for retail, manufacturing, entertainment and financial service clients at Coopers and Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest accounting, auditing and consulting firm. He received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Villanova University in Villanova, Pa. |
